Briefing: Developing a quality assurance system for daycare centres in Tanzania

In partnership with Thrive, ECD Measure supported the Tanzanian government in piloting a quality assurance system (QAS) for community-based daycare centres serving children aged 2–4. Using BEQI, the team gathered insights on quality practices, caregiver interactions, and programme conditions across 49 centres in three districts. The pilot demonstrated that government social welfare officers can reliably collect data, and that BEQI tools are feasible and useful for guiding quality improvement. The work highlights the importance of making data accessible to both policymakers and caregivers, and emphasizes community voice and equity in early childhood systems. Read more about this work in the brief posted below. You can also read more about the Thrive Project here.
